Vintage Omega Speedmaster – The Moon Watch

Although the first Omega Speedmaster was introduced in 1957 it wasn’t until the mid sixties that this watch started to make a name for itself. The Omega Speedmaster wasn’t the only great watch of the time but it just happened to be chosen by NASA for their pilots and astronauts. Obviously they thought it was the best watch at that time for their purposes which was great for Omega and in 1966 the Omega Speedmaster became the Omega Speedmaster Professional.

Being linked with NASA was a great feather in the cap for Omega but the best was yet to come. In 1969 the Omega Speedmaster was the first watch to be worn on the moon, ever since that time Omega have used this to their advantage in the luxury watch business world with anniversary watches and of course the Omega Speedmaster is also know as the moon watch. Dont get the impression that Omega were lucky to be associated with NASA, their watches were put through grueling tests, and to pass tests set by NASA, your watch had better be the best of the best.

The latest Omega Speedmaster Apollo 11 Watch was released this year 2009 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the first moon landing. Omega used some very powerful images from the 1960s to create a memorable advertising campaign for this watch.
