A Brief History Of The Omega Seamaster

The Omega Seamaster has quite a history. First introduced in 1948 there were two versions, the Chronometer and the Standard.

vintage omega seamaster The Chronometer was the first Seamaster to include a central second hand. Although the Seamaster is considered a divers watch, it wasn’t until the 1980s that the professional versions were introduced and some serious divers watch qualities introduced.

The original 1948 Chronometer would be considered as waterproof and adequate for swimming but not until the later models in the eighties did water depth figures start to appear and the first professional watch was water resistant down to 200 metres.

The more modern Omega Seamaster watches are water resistant down to 600 metres and have become very popular because of the association with James Bond.
Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean It was first used by James Bond in the Golden Eye movie starring Pierce Brosnan and although the watch is called the The Seamaster Professional it became known as the Omega James Bond Watch.

When Daniel Craig took over the role of James Bond, he got a new watch called the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean which is the latest version of this watch.
