Why is the Omega Speedmaster known as the Moon Watch?
Omega has made a big deal about the fact that the Speedmaster was worn by Buzz Aldrin when he walked on the moon in 1969. Was it just luck that he just happened to have his Omega watch with him while he was travelling to the moon? Well actually there’s a whole lot more to it than that.
Here’s a great article that explains the background to this historical event and what Omega had to do to be part of it:

Another interesting fact for the Vintage Speedmaster collectors. Although the Speedmaster is now known as the moon watch, used by the Apollo space program. The first Speedmaster in space was worn by Walter Schirra in 1962 and all Speedmasters before 1969 are also known now as pre moon Speedmasters. All Speedmasters after 1969 has the inscription “The first watch worn on the moon” on the case backs and recently that has changed to “The first and only watch worn on the moon”, which is actually not true because David Scott wore a Waltham chronograph watch while out for a stroll on the moon during the Apollo 15 mission.
